Learning not to fly
A common, yet curious bird within the wild,
not exceptionally big, strong or bright
felt his time had come to learn to fly,
just because it is in his nature, never questioning why.
Ambitious, he practiced day and night,
his goal clear to him, yet just beyond his sight.
He would jump, run and try,
but nothing further than a leap he would fly.
While struggling and trying with all his might,
He saw his beautiful cousins all take flight.
Frustrated by only being able to walk, leap and sit,
He grew tired of trying, he was ready to quit.
Instead he decided to go and take a swim,
Just trying something new, something that never occurred to him.
And to his own surprise, it came with ease.
Not hard at all, but simple, just like a breeze.
Finally, more happy than he had ever been,
He was ready to be the best penguin the world had ever seen.
